Symposium: What Elders Tell Us [About Injury Prevention/ Health Promotion Programs]

March 2006

Presented at the 2006 NCOA-ASA Joint Conference:

This symposium featured three projects that have implemented health promotion and/or injury prevention programs in senior centers or nutrition sites with support from the U.S. Administration on Aging initiative: Evidence Based Prevention Programs for the Elderly.  Projects are located in Houston and San Antonio, Texas, and in greater Hartford, Connecticut.  Each project organized a series of focus groups with older adults participating in targeted senior centers and nutrition sites to gain a better understanding of how they viewed the health promotion or injury prevention activities that framed the programs—physical activity, healthy nutrition, and fall prevention.

File attachment: At the close of the session, a discussant remarked on all three presentations, comparing and contrasting the findings.
